By now most search engine professionals should already be familiar with the new Utah legislation preventing advertisers from bidding on competitors’ trademarks as keywords. To this point search engines, such as Google, have stayed out of the battle between Trademark owner and advertiser for the most part. Accordingly, Google encourages trademark owners to resolve their disputes directly with the advertiser, particularly because the advertiser may have similar ads on other sites. Kofi Annan and the UN have their hands full these days. The recent fighting in the Middle East continues to escalate with increasing civilian casualties on both sides. The tragic Sunday (7/30) attack on a Hezbollah missile battery that resulted in dozens of civilian deaths threatens to fuel the fires of war.
