Oneupweb Founder and CEO Named 2010 Enterprising Woman of the Year

Posted by Natalie on February 4, 2010 at 4:59 pm

On one of my first days here, Oneupweb’s Founder and CEO Lisa Wehr sat me and a couple other new employees down to tell us a little more about herself and the history of the company. I was shocked when she finished! How could she go from racing sled dogs through the Alaskan wilderness to becoming the Founder and CEO of a digital marketing agency? I’ve since found out.

I learned very quickly that Be Relentless™ isn’t just the tagline at Oneupweb, it’s the lifestyle. And Lisa Wehr continues to serve as a testament of how far this frame of mind can take you. The advisory board sifting through the hundreds of nominations for the 2010 Enterprising Women of the Year award must have agreed because they’ve just named her a winner of a 2010 Enterprising Woman of the Year award. And we couldn’t be more thrilled!

Despite a collapsed economy, Lisa led by example. She stayed focused and determined—relentless in her pursuit to tread through the economic sludge. And she did just that.

We’re thrilled that our leader has received such a distinction. As an employee, it gives me great honor and comfort to know that despite the nation’s current economic circumstances, our CEO did an exemplary job of towing us all through it. And a result of her relentless leadership, Oneupweb has become a stronger company.

2009 was not kind to many businesses, and unfortunately, many are still fighting their way out of the economic rubble the recession left in its wake. But this award serves as proof that a relentless mindset can carry nearly anyone or any company through just about anything. Congratulations Lisa!

Here’s a link to the Oneupweb press release.

Did you know that Michigan boasts the longest freshwater shoreline in the world? And it has more shoreline than any other state (besides Alaska)? Or did you know that no matter where you stand within the state, you’re no more than 85 miles from one of the Great Lakes? Or that there are more than 11,000 inland lakes and 36,000 miles of streams?

There are a lot of great things about Michigan, which is why we love it. We live here, and we do business here. That’s why we couldn’t be more excited to be named a Corp! Best of Michigan Business for the second year in a row.

Founded in 1998, Corp! Magazine aims to provide stories, news and profiles surrounding the state of Michigan in order to entertain and inform its audience, which is mostly composed of business owners and top level executives. Corp! dedicates its efforts to expanding the knowledge surrounding local Michigan businesses and ultimately, advancing them.

Corp! asked its readers to nominate those businesses they considered to be the very best in Michigan—and Oneupweb made the list in the “Media, Marketing and PR” category.

There are a lot of great things about the state of Michigan, and Oneupweb is thrilled to be considered one of them! Congratulations to all of Corp! Magazine’s Best of Michigan Businesses. Let’s continue to Be Relentless™ in 2010.

Social Media Marketing Works

Posted by Maureen on July 1, 2009 at 11:48 am

We just announced today that the 30th Annual Telly Awards has honored Oneupweb with a 2009 Telly for our Oneupweb vs. Sign Thief viral campaign. This is exciting news, especially because this award-winning campaign was executed through social media along — and it has shown some great results.

The entire campaign was built and executed in about one week. It arose out of the fact that everyday before the 2008 Presidential election, we would put out signs in support of now President Obama. And every night, someone would come along and take them down. So we decided to fight back in Oneupweb style: by being relentless.

With a high velocity video projector, we displayed a 30-foot image of now-President Obama dancing on the side of our building. And then we took it social, posting a video of the projection to CNN iReports, CBS Eye Mobile and more. We uploaded a Dragnet-style video we had created in-house to YouTube and Facebook. We started posting updates on various social channels, blogging and more. The entire promotion of the event was done through social media marketing.

And the results? Check this out:

  • Within one week, the video was viewed by more than 6,000 users and received 113 comments from people around the world.
  • Visits to OneUpWeb.com increased over 120 percent the day the video was posted to the various social media channels. And they continued to rise.
  • The video appearing on YouTube and Facebook quickly became one of the leading sources of traffic to the Oneupweb corporate website.
  • Within one hour of posting on CNN iReports, a CNN reporter was on the phone for Oneupweb CEO Lisa Wehr, eager to get all the facts. And the story ran on CNN primetime the night of the election in front of 5.8 million people.

All in all, the Oneupweb vs. The Sign Thief campaign reached an estimated 10 million people around the world in a little over one week. And we’re continuing to see new hits to the videos almost eight months later.

So thank you to the 30th Annual Telly Awards, all of the judges, and everyone out there who made this award possible.

Our Shiny New Silver Sledgehammer

Posted by Maureen on June 11, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Last night my colleague and I had the honor of presenting our Office Survival Kit to the Business Marketing Association at their Annual Conference in Chicago. We were absolutely thrilled to find out we’d been awarded a Silver Sledgehammer for the direct mail piece. The Silver Sledgehammer is one of b2b’s highest honors, and one really cool award.

I mean, when else do you get to win a sledgehammer? A real sledgehammer (okay, it’s not “real”, but it’s still really cool).

We were absolutely honored to be included with the other winners: Motorola/BBDO, Accenture, Ketchum and Gyro:HSR. Also receiving an award that night was Jeffrey Hayzlett, the CMO of Kodak.

While it’s really rather ironic that we won the award for a print piece, and we’re an online marketing company, it shows the kind of creativity that clients can expect from Oneupweb. And so did our acceptance video.

We’d like to say a big thank you to the Pro-Comm judges and the BMA. We’ll see you next year!

Thank You AdAge!

Posted by Maureen on May 4, 2009 at 9:57 am

Advertising Age has just recently released their 65th Annual Advertising Agency Report. And now for the exciting news (drum roll please) — Oneupweb has been named a top U.S. Search Marketing Agency for the third consecutive year.

According to Ad Age, the 65th annual Advertising Age Agency Report (published April 27, 2009) was produced by the Ad Age DataCenter. It includes rankings of more than 900 advertising, marketing-services and media agencies based on 2008 revenue.

It is a true honor to be named to this list for the third consecutive year, search_has_changed.jpgand further solidifies something we’ve been saying in our website and white papers — search has changed. It’s no longer about optimizing a website. Today, successful search marketing includes the optimization of a brand’s complete digital presence.

Think about everywhere your brand is on the web. You’re probably making a list that includes your website, maybe a company blog, a company Facebook page, maybe even a company Twitter account.

Then stop and think everywhere that your brand is being featured and/or discussed — not by a company representative, but by your target audience. Are they mentioning your brand in podcasts, on a video in YouTube or Vimeo, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc? While having people discuss your brand positively is a great thing, think of the competition this presents for your corporate website on the first page of Google search results.

The lesson: Having social media profiles isn’t enough. You’ve got to optimize everything digital to stay on top. It’s called the power of relentless optimization™ — something we specialize in at Oneupweb.
