An SEO Christmas

Instead of dealing with retail store lines and consumer goods fisticuffs, many people are opting for online shopping. CNN Money reported that online sales have risen 25% compared to last year, and even set a record with $667 million worth of sales in one day. It is also reported that ComScore is forecasting total sales to be $24.6 billion. 'Tis the season, apparently.

Baaaaaah Humbug?

Being in the optimization industry, I try to optimize everything I do. It makes almost anything seem smooth and easy. Taking optimization even further than simply shopping online, I bought one gift for my entire family online this year.

I bought two goats.

No, they aren't actually for my family. I hit up last year's holiday donation sensation, Heifer.org, for my gift. They'll be donated to a rural family in need of a food and income source. In fact, this is the second year I have done this; last year I bought only one goat. It makes sense for me to buy one online gift for someone who really needs it.

Time is of the Essence

Does it get any easier than that? You bet it does. For those with finer tastes, Business Week reported that Barney's, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale's among others are offering wine, sushi, and hand-picked gifts for you to choose from, selected by one of their specialists as part of an easier shopping experience. And for the person that wants absolutely nothing to do with Christmas shopping, Craigslist.org is full of people offering to be your own personal holiday shopper.

But in the end, it's not about the gifts I buy or the money and time I spend getting them. It's quality time spent with the family that is important to me. With that in mind, it looks to be a great Christmas.
